Fuel cars aren’t running 1/4 mile for a reason. Most race tracks don’t have the stopping distance for the speed fuel cars can run. They would be near 350 MPH and have 320 less distance to stop.

The "lots of waiting around, the frantic activity for a short bit" matches my experience with being at motorcycle circuit racing too. You arrive on Friday for practice sessions, (if taking part in practice), then you have qualifying on Saturday morning, then one race in the afternoon, and two races on Sunday. For the class my friend races in, that's about 20 minutes of activity twice each day, and 10 hours at the track! :)

What does it feel like to go from 6g+ takeoff to negative, what 4-5g stop in a 1000th of a second? How do you keep your eyeballs in?

Spectators cannot tell the difference. They should consider 1/8 mile for top fuel classes. Again, the cars are so fast the spectators would never notice if not for the times on the board.

Watched plenty of NHRA on TV but never live. Well, I purchased tickets for the Norwalk race for Saturday back in April. Was kinda down about the weather since I had been counting down the weeks before the race and Saturday looked like a wash with storms. Decided to drive up anyway and arrived about 12PM as the rain was stopping. Track crews working hard to dry and condition the track and was walking the pit area. Got excited to hear over the PA that Nitro rounds would run at 3 or 4PM. Got my first warmup expierence in a cloud of nitro fumes and 2 throttle blips. Jackpot 🤤.Watched the nitro cars run from midway up in the stands about 150' down track and it was awesome. Went down to the East fence about 300' down from the start and watched Pro Stock, PS bikes, and ScottRods gassers. At Norwalk this is about 30' from the track. Then came the first nitro cars and... Holy $&%* what just happened. It was almost as enjoyable getting my mind blown (soul shaken) as it was watching others arrive at the fence that you could tell never expierenced the core being shaken out of them. Best spot in the house. Unforegetable. Looks like I will be attending Indy and Norwalk races from now on. 👍

I was pretty sure the top fuel used to rev their engines out to 85-8800rpm but I never see your tach in the GoPro video go much above 7800rpm is this something that is fairly new? Obviously If you don’t need to rev them that high you shouldn’t

When your pulling fuel out on the burnout, Is it to take power out of the engine or to stop it from loading up because there isnt enough load on the engine?
